Today, 14 March 2024, cabinet has announced the approval of the Industry Waste Tyre Management Plan (IndWTMP) for implementation, following an extensive process over the last few years that included various comprehensive rounds of public consultation.
The Industry Waste Tyre Management Plan (IndWTMP) known as the REDISA Plan, was gazetted in November 2012, commenced operations in February 2013,
flourished for three years, and was illegally destroyed in 2017.
The IndWTMP provides a plan to divert 100% of new waste tyres from storage, while simultaneously targeting the processing of existing stockpiles. Key opportunities of job creation around the collection, transportation, storage and recycling of waste tyres will finally be set into motion. This will be aided through the development of additional waste tyre processing capacity supported by government.
